9th March 2010 TASTY DAIRY-FREE ‘GREEK STYLE CHEESE’ PRODUCED BY HEATHER MILLS’ ETHICAL VEGAN FOOD FIRM REDWOOD SHORTLISTED FOR AWARD
A tasty dairy-free alternative to Greek cheese that has proved hugely popular with vegetarians, vegans and people who are lactose intolerant has been shortlisted in the 2010 FreeFrom Food Awards.
Produced by The Redwood Wholefood Company, the ethical food firm owned by charity and animal rights campaigner Heather Mills, Greek Style Cheezly has been shortlisted in the awards’ plant ‘milk’ category, which covers spreads, yogurts and ice cream as well as cheese.
Organised by Foodsmatter.com, the FreeFrom Food Awards ‘celebrate the innovation and imagination shown by the food industry in creating foods that do not include one or more of the ingredients - wheat, gluten, dairy products, eggs, yeast, soya, sugar etc - associated with the many chronic health problems that plague the 21st century’.
“We’re delighted that our Greek Style Cheezly has been shortlisted for this award,” said Redwood director Keith Stott. “It used to be really difficult for vegans and people who suffer from food intolerances or allergies to find dairy-free alternatives to soft cheeses such as feta, which can be high in lactose. We’re glad that our Greek Style Cheezly is proving so popular.”
Available from good health food stores and Redwood’s online shop www.redwoodfoods.co.uk, Greek Style Cheezly is delicious crumbled over Mediterranean salads or baked in a casserole with tomatoes, peppers, onions and garlic. Other varieties of Cheezly available include super melting Mozzarella Style, Nacho Style and Cheddar Style.
The awards will be presented on 21st April 2010 by Antony Worrall Thompson in London.
